Geometry Dash Spider is a small Unity game that isolates a single Geometry Dash form: the spider, the one that goes from floor to ceiling in one move instead of jumping. The version offered here is hosted by the Russian portal 8games.net and no studio name appears in the game. It plays without any trouble, but the whole interface is in Russian, including the message that explains the only control.
Where does the Geometry Dash spider come from?
In RobTop's game, the spider arrived with update 2.1, in January 2017, at the same time as the level Fingerdash. It does not jump: each press teleports it instantly to the opposite surface. This game does not copy any official level. It keeps only that movement and turns it into an endless run, graded by a score.
Translating the four lines of Russian on screen
Since nothing is translated, here is what the texts we came across during our runs say:
- Геометри Даш Паук on the title screen: Geometry Dash Spider.
- Лучший счёт under the green button: best score.
- Нажми, чтобы телепортироваться at the start of the run: press to teleport.
- Игра окончена when the spider hits a spike: game over.
The counter at the top left, Счёт, is the score of the current run.
How does the score go up?
The level scrolls on its own and the counter climbs as the run goes on. Spikes are planted on the floor and the ceiling, and the right moment to flip depends on where they are. On our first attempt, eight presses on Space were enough to reach 25 before ending up in a spike. The end screen repeats the score and the best score, and shows two round green buttons, one with a list icon, the other with a circular arrow.
We saw no level select, no stars and no shop. Everything comes down to that back and forth and to the best score shown on the title screen.
Keyboard, mouse or finger: what works?
On a computer, the space bar triggers the teleport. The help message talks about pressing, which is aimed at touchscreens. On a phone, after twelve seconds of waiting, the frame was still showing the "Made with Unity" loading screen. In portrait, it takes the width of the phone but stays short, with an 8GAMES.NET strip underneath.
That strip adds the version's second flaw, after the language: a MORE GAMES link to the portal's catalog, stuck right under the play area, where your finger lands to play.
Spider, Vibes or Wave: which one to pick?
All three games run on a single control but do not ask for the same reflex. The spider flips in one go, which rewards pure timing. Geometry Vibes and Geometry Dash Wave slide an arrow diagonally for as long as the key is held: you have to judge how long you press rather than when. Vibes adds ten levels sorted by difficulty, Wave adds automatic checkpoints.
To get back to the original levels, where portals change the player's form in the middle of a run, the Geometry Dash Scratch port by Griffpatch opens on Stereo Madness, and our home page offers an unofficial web version of Geometry Dash Lite. The history of the forms and updates is summed up on the Geometry Dash Wikipedia page.
Is the best score kept from one visit to the next?
The menu shows it as soon as it opens (0 on our first visit). We did not check it after closing the browser.
